The Shared Housing Institute develops tools, resources and trainings on effective shared housing practices. Our work is built from the strength of partnerships. We engage with organizations, experts, and communities to collectively expand this housing option to prevent and end homelessness.
Our Team
Jamie Vanasse Taylor, PhD
President/Founder
Founder of the Shared Housing Institute, Jamie Taylor has worked as a technical assistance provider, researcher and trainer for over thirty years, focused on ending and preventing homelessness on a systemwide level. Over the last four years, Dr. Taylor has worked with states, counties and cities developing and implementing Shared Housing tools and trainings that have far-reaching impact, significantly expanding the network of shared housing options across the country.
Rachel Steed, MPH
Public Health Specialist
Rachel has worked on public health, program evaluation and community-based social determinants of health projects for over 15 years. Her work with the Shared Housing Institute team includes co-developing a Shared Housing white paper for SAMHSA, and developing community of practice trainings on essential shared housing components based on findings from a national environmental scan and emerging best practices from Shared Housing projects around the country.
Ana Rose Taylor, BA
Information and Special Projects Coordinator
Ana gathers and analyzes information that is essential to the development of the Shared Housing Institute projects. Her work contributes to SHI products and presentations, and she also serves as an editor for public communications. She is a University of Vermont graduate, with a BA in Political Science.
Paul Kim, BA
Production Coordinator
Paul is our multimedia specialist and a major contributor to the Shared Housing Institute product and website development processes. He also troubleshoots all IT issues and regularly updates the SHI website. He is a Fordham University Graduate, with a BA in New Media & Digital Design
Emma Carrasco, M.Sc.
Housing Specialist
Emma Carrasco has worked in housing and community development for over 5 years. Her thesis work focused on analyzing housing policy aimed at improving tenant rights and the impacts of this policy on the relationship between landlords and tenants. She worked at PATH (People Assisting the Homeless) in Los Angeles implementing a framework to increase shared housing placements in Los Angeles County, increasing shared housing inventory via landlord engagement.

Los Angeles, CA
Landlord engagement entity for system-wide shared housing options across LA. Also implements RRH and shared housing programs across the county
The Road Home
Salt Lake City, UT
In 2020, 437 people were housed with RRH: shared housing is a norm across the homeless service system for both RRH and PSH, serving over 100 people since 2018.
BH Care
New Haven, CT
BH Care has successfully housed people in shared housing in their own properties and with landlords across New Haven county, with PSH and RRH, providing both landlord and client case management.
